The Sex Pixels [Suedehead]
I was watching TV the other day and saw that DJ Hero commercial with Eminem and Jay-Z and I started thinking about the fact that these peripherals are just going to keep going and going with this idea of playing a virtual instrument without ever picking up a real one.
This comic is of course an exaggeration, but really...how off are we from this happening? If it does, I get full credit and expect to be treated like Nostradamus. Thank you.

Not a bad idea, until you think of all the processing chemicals used in CD production. That spindle is probably full...

It's sad
It's sad, but this probably isn't too far off from being true
oh so true
i'm certain that was the point. it seems as though we're moving toward a less talented society is that aspect.
Are we talking...
..in general or musically. Cuz I agree whole heartedly on the musical side of things. I can't stand 90% of what I hear on the radio today. It all sounds like the same friggen song.
information overload
yeah, but i dunno if that really means society as a whole's getting less talented; i think it's just gotten easier to get on the radio, and people in general have gotten too lazy to bother taking a second to think about or really even hear the music on the radio
..
Well the record companies sign ppl that will sell to the masses as a whole and when signing someone Its not just the music they look for, they sign whoever is marketable and has a cute face and besides that the record company does have a say in your music you make and put on the album, so its no wonder Everything sounds the same. I dont think its easier to get on the radio now, I mean maybe myspace music but good luck trying to sell your band and bump one of these top 20 bullshit off the list. I mean there are a some exceptions but really the record company pays for your airtime, promotions, album production, books big-arena gigs, ect. ,, So any band that actually is good or different, you probably wont hear them or hear them that often..
i'm surprised
the 360 didn't red ring
yea
I thought the same thing afterwards, but it would be difficult in black and white...oh well, maybe when and if I go color.
Fun Fact!
Dr. Kenneth Noisewater is the name of Brian Fantan's right testicle in the hit Will Ferrell movie, "Anchorman"
Good catch!
Nice catch...was waiting to see if anyone would get that.
First, let me say that I love
First, let me say that I love the comic this week, but I really disagree with the notion that virtual instruments are somehow keeping kids from experimenting with real instruments. I can play several instruments (guitar, drums, trombone, I'm sort-of decent at bass), and I love Rock Band/Guitar Hero. It has actually increased my dexterity and picking speed in ways that boring practice wouldn't have.It also made me pay more attention to some of the guitar parts in songs that I never really had any interest in.
Not everyone is cut out to play musical instruments, but this is a case where more kids are getting a taste of the musical experience. There is nothing like rocking out with a real band, and games like Rock Band give the musically-challenged a taste of that feeling. Plus, the kids that are interested in playing instruments are getting decent training. Playing an hour of guitar hero on hard works essentially the same muscles as the real thing. You can get a decent workout from the Rock Band drumset. These actually translate to the real world. Someone that is used to holding down the firm buttons of a Guitar Hero controller can use that same strength on an acoustic guitar.
I think we're going to see a new generation of musicians who cut their teeth on games like this. Kids that play these games nowadays are doing the same shit we used to do with brooms and air guitars...pretending to rock out and having fun. I transitioned from air guitar to the real thing, but it took weeks for me to get used to the tension of the strings, strumming, the muscle pain, etc. These kids will have a leg up on us.
totally
First off, I am so glad this is getting a good conversation going. I was more poking fun at the whole 'virtual instrument' tidal wave that is happening. I actually think these games are doing more good than bad because they are introducing younger generations to music that they would have normally would have never been introduced to. Anytime you can spread good music from past generations to newer ones is definately a plus. Like most of my stuff, it's an exaggeration and I hope that we get more musicians who have 'cut their teeth' on games like this.

My reply was targeted more at the folks that are saying that GH/RB is somehow preventing kids from playing real instruments...the "Why don't you get a real guitar?" arguement. :)
