So for some reason today, when I got off work, I felt like something different for dinner. Like something I had never tried before. So I went to the nearest Asian grocery and picked up some natto and Calpico among other things that I would normally stock in the house like rice and tofu and soy sauce and green tea.

I love trying new things, and I had somehow stumbled across a video about natto the other day... I had seen it before, but I finally decided I'd give it a try. Natto is a mess of slimey fermented soy beans, usually served over rice, though you can mix it with almost anything or eat it on toast. It looks nasty as hell, but it's pretty good.

And to drink, I went for Calpico, a slightly sweetened milk beverage from Japan:

The natto came frozen, so while I was making the rice, I just popped the natto in the microwave on medium or a few seconds to get it unfrozen. How does it taste? Well, I hear natto is an acquired taste, but I liked it right off the bat. It smells a little like feet or cheese and it's sticky as a motherfucker, but the only thing that took me a little getitng used to is the texture. It leaves a slime in your mouth that is like... slime. Like slimey slime. But washing it down with Calpico (also sometimes known as Calpis, which is the company that makes it) is oh so yummy. The Calpico can only be described as fucking awesome. If you've had the Fuze peach cream drink, it's like that except without the peach.

And now to finish it off with some Pocky for dessert. Mmmm.
