In fact that entire troupe is a comedy team. They do crap like that to each other regularly. Wasn't really candid camera stuff.

Yeah, the guy who keeps going through the floor is Takashi Okamura, half of a comedy pair called 99, and one of the funnier (and genuinely talented) guys on TV in Japan right now.

Considering how much on TV here is completely set up, it wouldn't surprise me if he organized the whole gag himself.

Actually, almost nothing on Japanese TV uses random "people on the street" anymore. Every one of them is a paid performer, and very often someone who's well known (at least in Japan). This goes not only for pranks like this one, but also for game and quiz shows. The 'human tetris' game, and the guys getting smacked in the nuts for screwing up tongue-twisters, for example, are pro comedians who appear on TV at least a couple of times every week.

For a while the networks here used ordinary people, like on Takeshi's Castle in the 80's and when Who Wants To Be A Millionaire first started here. They discovered two things, though: (1) most viewers said they weren't interested in 'ordinary' people; they wanted to see people they recognized who knew how to do entertaining things on demand. And (2), you can do things to a struggling comedian desperate for fame that would make an office worker pulled off the street bust your nose in.
