It's marijuana harvesting time in northern California [Photography]

Much like many other farms across the northern hemisphere, it's weed harvest time in Mendicino County in northern California. In recent years, Mendicino has become notorious for its massive weed-growing operations, much of it used by medical marijuana and all of it ignored by local law enforcement.

Last year at this time, the photographer Mathieu Young ventured up north to document, with neither judgment nor agenda, a mid-fall marijuana harvest. “On the one hand it seems like an illicit activity,” says Young. “But on the other hand, you have a bunch of people who are living off the land, which is beautiful.”

they really should just leaglize pot and close down all the clinics and sell it in hospitals with armed guards 24/7. they also really need to fix the card carry system you have teenagers running around with those stupid cards because of glaucoma/insomnia/ADD and we all know they are full of it. this product can really help sick people they just need to handle it right.

 ...just make it completely legal. i can't think of any real dangers in legalizing pot, and potential benefits include medicinal purposes, as well as removing or at least marginalizing the criminal element - if weed's legal, drug dealers lose a loooot of money, which can't be a bad thing

I'm totally with you.  The only reason marijuana is illegal is because Hearst's interest in the timber industry and anti-Mexican xenophobia.  Legalize it and tax it like the much more deadly alcohol and tobacco you can buy in stores today.  I think it'll take a while, but once the commercial entities start selling better stuff than your neighbor grows, it'll become a well regulated industry.  Plus, maybe certain parts of the country will chill the fuck out.  Did anyone hear about Breckenridge, Colorado's decision to legalize it?  Of course, it's purely symbolic, but it's a good sign nonetheless.
