HD trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time [I Heart Movies]

Here's the brand spanking new HD trailer for the upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of TIme. It definitely looks very high budget Disney / Bruckheimer spectacular, something that I'm sure will rock plenty of theater seats and launch a thousand toy lines, but I'm still not sure how I feel about Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

pirates worked because of depp... this one wont match it cause obviously gyllenhaal isnt a depp type draw in... i smell FLOP SAUCE all over this one.

It's said to have a $150 mil budget and the studio is NOT going to let that investment be a flop -- expect serious marketing muscle.  Gyllenhaal has decent draw especially among informed young females (if my sisters are any predictor).  I predict it'll do decently.  The trailer does make it seem like it lacks Pirates' playfulness, though.  I remain cautiously optimistic.

i've been burned by video game movies in the past....it looks good but god damnit if i'm not a purist....if it stuck to the original story line then just maybe....it could be epic...and that's a big maybe

Pirates is not a good comparison for this one -- what with Gyllenhaal in the lead role, I wager it'll have a different target demographic. I hope. Because I'm sensing something like a million outraged theater-patrons that cried out and were suddenly silenced.

If disney can make three high grossing movies based on a theme-park ride, then they might be able to pull this off. But then there's also the haunted mansion movie . . . . . so I give Prince of Persia a 50/50 shot.
