One of the movies that many people are thinking will end up several Oscar nominations-- probably best picture and best actor for Sean Penn is Milk, the bio-pic about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California and who was tragically assassinated by a fellow city supervisor in 1978. If you're not familiar with Harvey Milk, you could always just Wikipedia the shit or you could watch this Oscar-winning documentary on his life and familiarize yourself with him before you see Milk. Or at least it's a fascinating piece of American history.
