An early look at Interplay's Fallout MMO [I Heart Video Games]
Yeah, I said Interplay's Fallout MMO. You see, there's a bit of legal wrangling between Bethesda and Interplay, the company that used to own the rights to Fallout before Bethesda bought them in 2007. It's really messy. But in any case, all you should know is that Interplay's been working on a Fallout MMO, in between Bethesda forcing them not to over the trademark questions. And out of this whole mess, we get some cool concept art. Just keep your fingers crossed that this will actually happen.

Ooooh
definitely a plasma carbine of sorts in the fellows right hand in image 3
meeh
it could be fun, but i've been burned on mmo's that look good but the gameplay is crap...i'll be wary to say the least
A fallout MMO would probably
A fallout MMO would probably destroy WoW and Funcom.
i stopped playing wow once...
i stopped playing wow once...
the reason was fallout 3, but then i went back to wow...
please let this be a good MMO...
I don't want to insult any
I don't want to insult any MMO fans, but I am no friend of MMO's. WoW seemed cool until I realized it meant no more Warcraft RTS's. The Bioware Old Republic probably means no more KOTORs too. So I'm thinking a Fallout MMO might mean no more real Fallouts. I hope Bethesda squashes this. MMO's have no real story and are too time consuming for my tastes. The PvP isn't fun either. I'm a fan of twitch-based PvP. They just strike me as endless cash dumps and are only a money-making scheme for lazy developers. I'll stick to my FPS's and my FPS's with RPG elements.
More asians please.
on the one hand, i really
on the one hand, i really like the immersive element of mmos, even though often that immersive element seems to drown out any actual gaming involved in favor of basically... work. skinning animals, fishing, grinding, baking cakes and shit.
i do think it's interesting that for a while after wow came out and got really big that there were already a number of companies chomping at the bit to try and take wow down and now wow has gotten so incredibly massive that no one's really even trying anymore, but that's exactly when a really good mmo will come along and topple that mountain.
however there's enough people playing wow that even if a delaware-sized meteor slammed square into north america, there would still be enough people alive and playing wow that it would be more than any other mmo ever at their peak. but i do think that when the fabled wow killer comes along, it'll either be something else by blizzard (like their "mystery mmo" or starcraft mmo) or something from an already established franchise. i don't see star trek or star wars mmos doing it, since they've got more of a massive but niched fan base. i wouldn't see a fallout mmo doing it either, since there's no pretty elves you can play, but if there were one, i would definitely give it a day in court.
but, f interplay wins, they make their fallout mmo and you're right... no more fallout action games.
I really did like Ultima
I really did like Ultima Online for a while, but it gets to be so damn expensive. Especially since at the time for me it meant extra chores so my mom would pay for it. haha To be honest, if I had some more free cash and more free time, I probably would be an on-off MMO player. Yeah, the 'work' aspect does turn me off from them. I feel there's a bit of a push from the accountants in the companies to make quests and leveling up take a little longer.
Once Blizzard starts to rest on it's laurels over WoW, they will lose the top of the MMO world. I used to have a lot of love for Blizzard. Back in the Diablo/Warcraft/Starcraft days, I did not play a Blizzard game I didn't love. To be completely honest, I've never played WoW and I'd imagine it has quite a bit of draw to it, but it's taken Blizzard over a decade now to put out a either a Diablo or Starcraft game. It's been seven years since Warcraft 3! I'm a little bitter.
More asians please.
so wait...
interplay is designing this game...and betheseda is working on fallout vegas?
Greedo shot first!
correct, so hopefully both
correct, so hopefully both are made and the whole world has a coke.
Agreed if they stop making
Agreed if they stop making regular fallouts Ima hulk out with nerd rage and cause a nuclear war to create my own fallout multi man game in real life
I am totally with you on this
I am totally with you on this one....
Bah
This isn't the first time they tried something like this with the Fallout franchise, and it won't be the last. Ultimately, the good writing and plot are what drove Fallout and Fallout 2 to be such popular games. If the studios haven't learned that lesson yet, then nothing else is going to teach them.
