So yay back in the early 90s, Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev worked to dismantle the Soviet Union and end the Cold War. So the threat of nuclear annihilation was gone and what did the world get in return? The largest god damn failed state the world has ever known.

It went from the Soviet Union, where things were bad to be sure, but at least it was only bad for the Russians. The Soviet Union breaks up, Russia goes to utter hell and we end up with starving Russian scientists selling weapons and secrets to pay for groceries and once the Internet came along, Russia becomes the epicenter of the world spamming and hacking problem.

I'm pretty diligent about spam on IHC... I'm constantly deleting, banning, blocking etc but stuff always gets through. And it's mainly from Russia. Fake Russian user accounts, Russian comment spam... I get Russian spam in my inbox, I get Russian hackers constantly pinging the site.

And it makes me wonder... people think Putin is bad, but maybe he's not bad enough. Maybe what the world needs, what Russia needs is another Stalin. Someone to really crank down the screws on Russia and keep their shit within their own borders. Maybe totalitarianism has a use after all.
