With too many people in Detroit too broke to afford funerals and with the city too broke to do anything about it, corpses are piling up in freezers in morgues around Detroit and no one seems to know what to do with them. Obviously, the next step is to grind up the bodies and serve them in chili to Detroit's schoolchildren, thereby also saving money on school lunches. Voila.

Way back in the mid to late 19th century, when photography was still a new technology, it was something that was expensive and not readily available to most people. It may be hard to believe these days when almost every aspect of someone's life can be photographed and recorded that the only time most people had their photos taken in the 19th century was when they were dead.

In this PSA from Australia, the topic of excessive speeding isn't approached lightly. If this ad had played in the US, I'm sure there would have been a hundred lawsuits from parents saying that their kids no longer sleep at night. Yay for people killing their entire families in car accidents.

Print this out and keep this card in your wallet in case of death so that others know that you want your body to be donated to others for sexual experimentation. It's the right thing to do.

A severed head can last for up to about a minute or so once it's been removed from the body, but in the 1920s, a Russian scientist by the name of Sergei Brukhonenko managed to keep the severed head of a dog alive for hours by attaching it to a machine that he called an “autojector”, a primitive heart / lung machine.

The dog head responds to light, to touch, to noise, smell and even eats a small piece of cheese that's then crapped out of the neck.  Watch the video below on how this machine worked and watch the creepy dog head in action.

The Guardian UK has a great online photo exhibit of photos of people while they were alive and shortly after they died, which you can see in its entirety here. The photos are gorgeous, showing a moment of life followed by that moment when there's nothing left but an inanimate object.

A 56-foot, 60-ton sperm whale died on a beach in Taiwan in January, 2004. Researchers wanted the carcass to perform an autopsy and for research, so they loaded the whale onto a tractor-trailer and set out through the city of Tainan, heading for the Shi-Tsau Natural Preserve. It took 13 hours, three cranes and 50 workers to get the whale loaded on the truck. Unfortunately, on the way through the city, gasses built up to a critical level in the whale and it exploded, spewing whale guts in the street, on the cars and over pedestrians. According to witnesses, the smell was pretty bad.
