Apple I Basic plucked from vintage cassette tape, turned into MP3 [I Heart Tech]
July 18th, 2008 • Related • Filed Under

They very first piece of commercial Apple software — a primordial flavor of BASIC originally released in 1976 that took thirty seconds to load — has been perfectly and authoritatively extracted from a yellowing audio tape and converted into a 38 second MP3, playable in iTunes, which you can hear right here. Caution: turn down your speakers or headphones because the sounds may break your ears.
Anyway, a bunch of those “types”, super duper computer geeks have been messing around with this recording to divulge its many secrets, all of which don’t mean a damn thing to me. But you can read them here while you’re playing the mp3 over and over and over again trying to get your current computer in the mood.
