8 Fun Things to do with your Dad in Azeroth this Father’s Day [WoW]

For many people, Father’s Day is all about hanging out and / or connecting with your dad by doing things like grilling out, working on the car, going to a ball game or chilling on the couch drinking beer and watching sports. But not all sons and daughters are up for such manly pursuits. For some people, making special time to bond with your masculine parental unit may involve something more like grinding for leatherworking mats or going on a run through Karahzan with your guild. For those people, here’s a list of fun, simple things you and the old man can do this weekend to show your love.

Two vs Two Arena / Battlegrounds
Whether either one of you are experience Arena players or not, now’s always a good time to start. Season 4 starts on June 24, but that doesn’t mean you and your dear old dad can’t just casually go in, get your butt kicked a few times, have a laugh and pick up a few points. 2 v 2 is pretty quick and can be good for some instant gratification or instant humiliation. Either way, it gives you something to have a drink over. And if that gets too frustrating you can always do some battlegrounds that perhaps neither one of you have done in a while– level 20s Warsong Gulch or Eye of the Storm or Arathi Basin.

Griefing lowbies in Stranglethorn Vale
If you and your dad are on a PvP server, you know that hunting level 30 characters in STV with your level 65+ is a required time-waster of a past time. You know when you’re level 30 and on PvP that if you want to actually level with minimal ganking, you might as well go to Stranglethorn at around 3am or just avoid it all together. But then when you’ve got a high level character and you need a break from the Outlands or waiting around for endgame raid groups or dailies, you can always fly to STV for some easy hunting. And yeah there’s only so many you can pick off before the top-tiered 70 rogues and hunters start showing up to put you in your place, but it is fun while it lasts.

Helping him level an alt
Perhaps your dad doesn’t play a lot or at all. Maybe he does play a lot but he hasn’t really found the time to level that cute pink pigtailed gnome rogue. You can make an entire day out of running your dad’s alts through lower level instances and helping out with grinding. To random strangers, to some guy who wants you to drop everything to run him through Scarlet Monastery for the zillioneth time, there’s nothing more annoying, but for your dad, there’s nothing that says you care like helping to ease the burden of leveling.

Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza
Every Sunday of the month in Booty Bay is the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. Head down to the docks and spend hours casting your rod out into the bay, hoping for that giant catch, that high money catch or just a pair of wieldable fish that you can then use to run around bashing lowbies over the head with (if you’re on PvP of course). And it’s like real fishing, a true father-son past time, only without the heat and with fictitious goblins hanging out next to you.

Helping him upgrade his mount
If your dad has been looking to grind for the money and/or faction for a flying mount or an epic flying mount or a level 60 epic land mount, this weekend would be a great time to help him out with that. If he’s an engineer, you can help him with the engineer’s flying mount or perhaps take some time to run him through the quest line to bump up his faction for a pretty new Netherdrake or Nether ray. These things can’t be done alone for the most part, so lend him a hand. Hell, he probably helped you out in some way with your first car, it’s the least you can do to repay him.

Revisit old dungeons with high level characters
Nothing better illustrates changes in life and overcoming challenges that come our way like taking your level 70s through Blackrock Mountain or destroying Scarlet Monastery together. You can reminisce on those times when you were young and stupid and Mograine pissed you off to no end or Wyrmthalek kept wiping out your party again and again.

Rebuilding your talent trees
If your dad hasn’t played in a while or if he’s looking to up his game by joining a high end guild, he might need to rebuild his talent tree. It’s something that should be done regularly as your style of play changes or if the your guild requires a different build. And there are plenty of websites out there and a million opinions on what is the absolute best talent tree build for such and such a character at such and such a level, but take it from scratch and pore over talent tree calculators. You can spend hours weighing pros and cons and benefits and disadvantages, trying something out and then paying more to try something else out.

Make your dad something nice
If nothing else, or in addition to any of the above or whatever you come up with, you can always make your old man something nice– surprise him with a new pair of boots, a new two-handed axe, an enchant or potion or a purple drop you’ve been trying to auction that you know he needs. Nothing is as nice as surprising him in his trade window with a stack of rage potions or hitting him up with some mongoose enchants.
