Weezer hearts the Youtubes in their new video for “Pork and Beans” [I Heart Music]
It’s been a couple days since I’ve seen this video floating around, but I had never actually watched it. I like Weezer but yawn… they’re paying homage to a slew of Youtube celebrities. But then I watched the video for “Pork and Beans” and realized that they’re not just paying homage to a number of Youtube celebrities, but they actually paid all of them to be there and lipsync in the video– Numa Numa guy, the Afro Ninja, Tay Zonday, Miss Teen South Carolina– yup all them, all there with Weezer.
My first reaction was “well, band from the 90s, hasn’t put out an album in years and years… they’re just pandering to the teens…” and while that still could be true, one has to give them props at least for assembling the actual Youtube stars. But I guess how much really do you have to pay the Numa Numa guy to show up for your music video? Probably not a whole hell of a lot.

You can say what you want about a “90s” band. But you have to admit, go back to the Blue album or Pinkerton. This is the same sound they have always had. And they have been putting out albums. The Green album and Maladroit. Don’t bash the Weezer.

Great song, and a pretty damn good video.

Sorry Lycopene , I’m not bashing Weezer in the least. The 90s were some of my favorite years for music, Weezer included.
