Professor Randy Pausch’s “Last Lecture” [I Heart Tech]
If you were told that you had pancreatic cancer, and that you only had months to live, what would you do? What if you were also one of the pioneers of Virtual Reality research, a professor, and a father of three? Professor Randy Pausch at Carnegie-Mellon University was in that situation, and he decided to use this opportunity to give his “Last Lecture”. It’s a recap of the things he did as a professor, as well as a list of life lessons that he has learned and wanted to share with everyone.
Now, you would think that this would be a somber event, but it’s very upbeat. There are quite a few funny and interesting segments, including a sample of the work that his students produced in his Building Virtual Worlds class. It’s really a celebration of life, and, to a certain extent, approaching death. Which makes it a very universal subject—we are all going to die eventually, but most of us don’t know when. The video of his lecture is provided below, and you can check in on the professor’s condition via his blog here.
