Bees vs hornets the epic battle continues [The More You Know]

You may have seen this video of a colony of thousands of bees being absolutely and utterly destroyed by just a handful of hornets:

A fascinating video indeed, but much like Fox News, it doesn’t really tell the whole story, just the sensational outcome.

What’s really going on here is evolution at work. These are Japanese hornets versus European honeybees. European bees have evolved to use defenses that are effective against European predators, but versus the gigantic samurai Japanese wasps, their tactic of attacking one at a time means that the hornets just stand there and decapitate bitches until there isn’t anyone left. Japanese bees on the other hand, have generations ago learned that this doesn’t work against the Japanese hornets and have learned instead that attacking hornets en masse is a much more effective strategy.
