What American accent do you have? [The More You Know]

Rarely will you find links to goofy fucking quizzes on these pages, but this is an exception just because I can sometimes be a bit of a lingual nut. It’s a quiz to determine more or less what type of American accent you may have. The quiz is pretty vague and only seems to pinpoint about six or so broad general accents and isn’t very comprehensive, but it’s sort of interesting nonetheless.

I’d like to find a quiz like this that’s a bit broader in scope. The quiz identified me as having a Midland US or “no accent”, which is pretty incorrect. I’ve lived in NC for most of my life and while sometimes down here, I hear that I have an average American accent or “Northern”, when I went to school in Michigan for two years, most people who were native to that state could quickly pick up on my accent and pinpoint me as being from somewhere in the South. After living in North Carolina for so many years, I’ve been able to pick out around 8 - 10 accents in this state alone, so there’s obviously way more than six.

Anyway, it helps to say the words out loud, and preferably in a sentence to get the best idea of your accent. If you want to give the quiz a try, clicky here.
