In the late 70s through the mid 80s, there was a grand format war, greater in scope than the High Def Wars of aught eight– it was a war for the soul of America, for the future of recorded television media. And it began here– with the Sony Betamax machine, a far superior format that lost in the end to the cheaper VHS.
