Some people call it a chilito…I call it a chili cheese burrito… [I Heart Food]
For years, Taco Bell offered the chili-cheese burrito/chilito on the menu of all US Taco Bells. In fact, Taco Bell used to rule with an iron fist, forcing chain owners to adhere to the corporate menu. At some point, the bigwigs at TB decided to allow chain managers to have a say in what was available on their menus. As a result, the chili-cheese burrito was removed from many restaurant menus, much to the chagrin of stoners, college kids, and bachelors everywhere. The CCB was replaced by more exotic, and -here’s the rub- more expensive burritos and tacos.

Using a method similar to the Infinite Monkey Theory, Taco Bell began randomly throwing ingredients together, adding sour cream, and labeling their creations with vaguely-Spanish sounding names, ala the Chrysler Cordoba. Taco Bell’s menu was flooded with Chalupa’s, Gordita’s, Grilled Stuffed Burritos, Potato Burritos, etc. Of course, the only reason to get rid of the CCB was to free up precious space on menu boards and cash registers. The ingredients of the chili-cheese burrito are shared by other menu mainstays, so the only barrier to CCB production would be training and the willingness of the management to assign a key on the register for it. But, when Taco Bell is releasing a new $3 burrito every 3 seconds, why waste any space on a cheap burrito. Some shops decided to carry the burrito as a non-listed menu item, like the McDonald’s All-American burger(a standard hamburger with lettuce and tomato). It gradually became harder and harder to locate Taco Bells that carried the infamous CCB. Until now, that is…
Enter ChiliCheese.org. They have compiled a list of Taco Bells that still carry the Chili Cheese Burrito. So, you can experience the wonders of the CCB once again. But, you must be prepared to deal with 17 year old cashiers that have never heard of this item. If the cashier tells you they have no idea what you’re talking about, have them ask their manager about it. It will generally not appear on the menu, even at the locations that still carry it. Also, the prices have gone up a bit over the past decade, so expect to pay $2 or more per CCB. ChiliCheese.org also has a petition you can sign, but we all know that internet petitions are worthless spam magnets. So, sign at your own risk.

Nice! I’ve missed those for a long time, and even called Taco Bell HQ when they went away… now I see a Taco Bell a mere 15 minutes away has them. ROAD TRIP!
