Ever-growing list of obsolete job skills [Work Sucks]
If the strongest skill on your resume is VCR repair, programming in Prolog or adjusting the heads on a 9-track player, maybe it’s time to go back to community college and get some real skills. Thankfully, there’s obsoleteskills.com, a quickly growing database of skills that no one needs anymore or won’t need in the future.
Things like asbestos installation, changing the ribbon on a typewriter, using a sextant, using a sliderule for calculation, cutting and editing Super 8 film… they’re all on the list and they’re all pretty much worthless. Unless you’re really counting on an apocalypse at some point, where a skill like winding coils for a crystal radio might come in handy, you might think about learning something new.
Are there any skills on this list that you have and you don’t personally find all that obsolete?
And if you’ve forgotten that Sally Struthers used to hawk many of these stupid skills for ICS, here’s a quick reminder:
