How to: Hire a Woman [How To]

How To IHC Pic of the Day

In 1943, long before America imagined that a woman would be running against a black guy for President, hiring a woman could be a scary and intimidating process– how do you hire one that’s not only hard working and dependable, but also hot and willing to keep her mouth shut when you make moves on her?

If you can’t read the above, here’s the text:
1943 Guide to Hiring Women
The following is an excerpt from the July 1943 issue of Transportation Magazine. This was written for male supervisors of women in the work force during World War II.

“Eleven Tips on Getting More Efficiency Out of Women Employees: There’s no longer any question whether transit companies should hire women for jobs formerly held by men. The draft and manpower shortage has settled that point. The important things now are to select the most efficient women available and how to use them to the best advantage.

Here are eleven helpful tips on the subject from Western Properties:

1. Pick young married women. They usually have more of a sense of responsibility than their unmarried sisters, they’re less likely to be flirtatious, they need the work or they wouldn’t be doing it, they still have the pep and interest to work hard and to deal with the public efficiently.

2. When you have to use older women, try to get ones who have worked outside the home at some time in their lives. Older women who have never contacted the public have a hard time adapting themselves and are inclined to be cantankerous and fussy. It’s always well to impress upon older women the importance of friendliness and courtesy.

3. General experience indicates that “husky” girls - those who are just a little on the heavy side - are more even tempered and efficient than their underweight sisters.

4. Retain a physician to give each woman you hire a special physical examination - one covering female conditions. This step not only protects the property against the possibilities of lawsuit, but reveals whether the employee-to-be has any female weaknesses which would make her mentally or physically unfit for the job.

5. Stress at the outset the importance of time the fact that a minute or two lost here and there makes serious inroads on schedules. Until this point is gotten across, service is likely to be slowed up.

6. Give the female employee a definite day-long schedule of duties so that they’ll keep busy without bothering the management for instructions every few minutes. Numerous properties say that women make excellent workers when they have their jobs cut out for them, but that they lack initiative in finding work themselves.

7. Whenever possible, let the inside employee change from one job to another at some time during the day. Women are inclined to be less nervous and happier with change.

8. Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. You have to make some allowances for feminine psychology. A girl has more confidence and is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day.

9. Be tactful when issuing instructions or in making criticisms. Women are often sensitive; they can’t shrug off harsh words the way men do. Never ridicule a woman - it breaks her spirit and cuts off her efficiency.

10. Be reasonably considerate about using strong language around women. Even though a girl’s husband or father may swear vociferously, she’ll grow to dislike a place of business where she hears too much of this.

11. Get enough size variety in operator’s uniforms so that each girl can have a proper fit. This point can’t be stressed too much in keeping women happy.”

Wow, who knew hiring a girl could be such a pain?  To wrap up–fat chicks are more dependable but who wants that, have a psychologist on hand to help them with their female insanities, give them ample time to preen themselves or they’ll go into some sort of dissheveled female rage and keep them busy to keep their mouths shut and bad language makes them cry.  That’s a lot of work.

  1. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

  2. Wow. That made me laugh, especially the fact that women nowadays swear like sailors and are often the flirtees than the flirters.

  3. Damn, I love this sort of rerun. Good find, great blog.
(If you’ll pardon me, I need to go tidy my hair and wash my hands.)

  4. Wow, with some exception, most of this stuff is dead-on. Common, ladies, admit it. At least half of the list is right (I’m not going to point out which ones, cuz you already know).

Not that we’re any better. Our list would include things like:

    1. Make sure he thinks that he’s the one in charge. Men like to think that they make the decisions.

    and:

    2. Make sure the work he finds for himself is actually productive. Men have a tendancy to find things that just make the look busy so as not to be hassled before their shift is over.

  5. dude… you made fark.com… what an honor…

not only that but your material is awesome.. i wish someone had treated me like a piece of special merchandise just once in my 35 years in the work force… thanks you bra burning feminist hippies…thanks a lot…..LOL

hey and congrats again on the fark thing!!!!!!

  6. […] 1943 many companies were breaking new ground by hiring women.   Here are a few gems from the July 1943 issue of Transportation […]

  7. Meh, it’s easy to sit back and act amused at these guidelines, but the companies had nothing else to go off of.

As far as insanities from not being able to keep themselves plucked and preened; that’s entirely true. I have to deal with it every day.

  8. I know some PC pinheads will laugh at the common sense expressed within the guidelines, but I agree with EVERY single assertion. It’s just too bad that we’ve cast reason to the winds.

  9. OK - aside from the cursing, this list is ridiculous and I can’t belive anyone actually thinks it’s ok. Whatever - women can’t take criticism? Thin women aren’t productive? Women need more breaks? Please. Women have to work twice as hard for half the pay.

  10. […] to hire a woman… priceless I Heart Chaos: One more reason to get outside more often Sponsored […]

  11. “Please. Women have to work twice as hard for half the pay.”

This is an overused, tired, and thoroughly disproved statement.

It may still occur in some instances, but it doesn’t apply nearly as much as it used to, and can no longer be used as a valid complaint.

  12. From personal experience I have to agree with the article, sorry ladies.

  13. A girl: Women have to work twice as hard for half the pay.

Half the pay? Ya know, I hear this tossed around a lot, but there’s never any explanation or data to back it up. I would suspect that women do get paid less on average, but it’s probably due to the fact that women get pregnant, go on leave, or stop working for long periods of time to take care of kids. This causes two problems. One, they aren’t working or are only working part time,so the average pay rate for women goes down. Two,it’s much harder for them to find another job after a leave for pregnancy, since they aren’t keeping their skills up to date. If men only work part time or take a leave for a long period of time, it works the same way for them.

This old adage may have been true twenty years ago or more, but I think we’re getting to the point where men and women are much closer to being equal, pay wise. And, it doesn’t look like jobs are going to run out for women any time soon. Hospitals are desperately seeking more registered nurses, and that is a field of work which is dominated by women. A registered nurse typically starts off at $45-$55,000 (in NC, at least), and there is a lot of job security, good benefits, and room for advancement. If you ever get tired of nursing, there are loads of bio-med companies that will hire you as a consultant for loads of money, as well.

The “Twice as hard” part is funny as well. If anything, women can get away with working less. We’ve become so PC in this country that there are tons of women just gliding along in positions, because their bosses are afraid to fire them. Hell, we have some women like that in my office. No one wants to fire them, because they’re afraid that the women will claim gender discrimination and sue. At the same time, the men in the office are having to work harder in order to compensate. This is not a universal example and I’m not saying that women aren’t hardworking, but twice as hard? That’s just a bullshit generalization. If you’re actually working twice as hard the men around you, find a job that appreciates you and leave that sweatshop behind.

  14. I had an interview with a woman for a temp gig, a few days ago.

I was polite, courteous, I speak well, I’m well read and I was professional and friendly.

She conducted the entire interview as though she were speaking to a 12 year old boy who was pestering her for a snack.

The problem I’ve run into with women in the work place, and a lot more than in this particual case, is that the sort of behaviour and composure that men naturally proffer to give off an air of respect and courteous composure seems to translate to women as “Oh, you think you’re hot shit, huh?” I’m not sure why that is but I’ve stopped giving a rat’s tookie and I just suffer through it until they’re all done trying to condescend to me. As God as my witness, I have no idea what they’re trying to accomplish. It’s like talking to your pissy aunt who keeps saying; “This is MY house!”

  15. And, yes, I can spell “Particular”. Good thing it wasn’t for a typing position. : )

  16. Yes, the rules have changed. It used to be that you could come on to a slut at work and no one cared. Now, if you give them a quick feel up, they act like you raped them! Stupid sluts, they have been empowered by wimpy men over the last few decades. I used to bang a whore a week at work. Now, I have to resort to bars and massage parlors to hump someone.

  17. emptyhandkiller—— You make me SICK with your insane comments. I wish one of the women at your work would kick you right in your scrotum after you “feel her up”. Maybe if you got kicked in the ball bag every time you were an A hole, you would start behaving. In fact, I would LOVE to be the first woman to kick a field goal with your acorns! I hate you.

  18. I used to be a homeless rodeo clown but now I am a world class magician !

  19. Hey, Lulabelle…. maybe if YOU got kicked in your ugly, crooked toothed mouth every time you said something stupid, you would one day shut up! But no, like every other fat, hideous, ex hooker, you have to constantly run your mouth. Why don’t you go to emptyhandkiller’s favorite bar, meet him and then let him pork you in the dirty alley out back? He would like that….. Just make sure to spray your diseased baby hole with bug killer first!

  20. “Please. Women have to work twice as hard for half the pay.”

You mean businesses can quadruple their profits by hiring women? I’d like to see a documented case of that happening.

  21. Jees, this got silly, quick.

  22. i thought this was hilarious just because most of the above are true of women nowadays. so much for equal rights. haha..

  23. and lulabelle, maybe you should put out more.

  24. It all looks like good advice to me, especially the part about hiring old women. Bet they flirted a lot more in those days, when the office was full of hunky soldiers and their boyfriends were overseas.

  25. It’s really all about how one is socialized. Men needing something to do that is productive is the same as, “women need to be given a full schedule as they will not take the initiative to do more” really just means the same thing……….Women have definitely proved they can get ahead in life and often support the men that live with them, so this article can be analyzed and ripped apart by women and explained by how society expects one to act. It is sad to see society has been convincing young girls that they just sex symbols. This article states that married women are more serious, well yes, they already know what it’s like to be married and can now live life in reality not a dream.

  26. I’m a manager in an office with about 150 women and 60 men. I can tell you that these “tips” are pretty accurate. Though women in the workplace have come a long way, job-for-job, the men are much more productive. The women have to be handled with kid gloves, while the men need only be given an assignment. Fortunately, eollege educated women are has productive as men. So things are changing.

  27. I’d love to have it the way women do. I could get a job…if I WANT to. One I LIKE, not one I hate but have to do to support the family. And I can quit halfway through if I get bored. What’s hubby going to say about it? I’ll just take his money and the children and leave town. He best keep his pipsqueak mouth shut.

    PS
what is women’s No. 1 complaint about men? “They’re afraid to commit!” If marriage is so hard on women, how come they’re not the ones ‘afraid to commit’?

  28. hey, well. i gotta say this is pretty damn funny. yes women swear like sailors, i sure as hell do. n i don’t really care. but this just made me laugh, cause its so true for most women. i mean, i can’t go to class without chicks goin to the bathroom n holdin up the stalls to go put on eye liner, or lipstick or whatever. n always got some attitude prollem. im mostly laid back though, n i really just don’t care. i think its cause i was raised more by men, n always been round em. i just don’t give a care. but the thing bout the slut from that one guy makes me angry. but guys is guys, some are assholes, some are pigs, some are douche bags. but theres still plenty of great guys out there, n he prolly only said it fer shock, n to get people angry. so, whatever. with that attitude he’s prolly just as much a whore, n prolly has aids, or herpies, or somethin like that. so, eh, whateva. n that one lady said bout kickn him in the balls, well. i won’t do that, cause thats not right. but my, i wounldn’t mind sucker punchin him right in his face, or kicking his ass. the thing bout puttin out more, is completely like a slap in the face though. all girls ain’t whores. hell maybe im old fashioned. but whatever. n the thing bout chicks havin to work more, is bull. cause if anythin, all we gotta do is bat our pretty eyes, n can usually get whatcha want, as horrible as that is. i know ive used it when i wanted food at lunch n didn’t have the money, but usually only on my friends, which id get food anyway, n id do the same fer em. n i mean, theres some feilds, like comedians, cause face is, women aren’t really all that funny. seriously. i have never met a funny woman, besides myself, cause id like to think im funny ^_-. hahahaha. but my humor is more guy humor, so whateva. aaaaaanyway. some areas girls gotta work harder, but in reality, i don’t think its really an issue. and if we’re talkin bout bein equal, gays got it worst right now, speakin as a queer myself. i mean honestly. thats a big problem right now, and i really don’t want to move to freakin michigan. but all n all. really funny, n so true for most.

  29. ACtually, there IS PUBLISHED DATA that shows women earn about 75 cents on the dollar to men for EQUAL JOBS.

It seems that most of you were referring to factory type jobs, so being a female engineer, maybe I am out of my realm here. But sorry, boys, my male counter parts make more money than me for the same job. Don’t give me any of the maternity leave crap either - I haven’t had kids, and my husband is eligible for leave, too. And he will take it.

I don’t need to “preen” I don’t waste my money on cosmetics. I don’t care if the people around me swear, I’ve worked as an engineer in UAW plants. Doesn’t mean I swear back, but it means I don’t CARE. I don’t need instructions, I take charge of my role and I do it well. That list was riiculous - just try hiring a doc to examine me for “female issues” before you hire me.

All of you are citing that you “live it every day”. Get over yourselves. And realize that you probaby have male colleagues that aren’t perfect either. Take gender out of it, because I don’t think it plays as big a role as you think it does. We don’t get to pick our co-workers, which means you aren’t going to get along with everyone all the time. It does NOT by anymeans suggest that WOMEN need special treatment. That list IS ridiculous. And any of you that think it’s still legit today need to grow up a little bit. No, wait, grow up a LOT and realize that the working world is a diverse place. It’s challenging to manage people in general, and it’s challenging to create a harmonious team environment. And idiots like you that like to point the finger at someone else because they are different than you - YOU are the ones that make the workplace more miserable.

PS - if you want to see data on the inequity of pay scales between men and women in technical fields… www.swe.org

  30. Cassidy - If that is true, then why are men even hired? Be honest and stop lying to yourself. If a business could get the same output for 25% less cost in salaries/pay, then why would they ever hire a man, much less go overseas?

You really should learn to think before you speak.

  32. rico You have to be the most idiotic ignoramus ever to post on the web. Are you an armess dwarf, and you have to type with your toes? I suggest you go back to school, starting at day one kindergarten. You mindless halfwit, I bet you can’t even get a job at McDonald’s, since you can’t have a conversation or even count change. Why aren’t total dimwits like you rounded up, shoved into giant meat grinders, and made into doggie treats? Learn how to spell, make a paragraph, get off the drugs, or KILL YOURSELF. I hope you choose the last option.

  33. To allie ——- “Maybe you should put out more”????? You fat little whore, how DARE you tell me how much sex to have? Besides, no one could keep up with the dirty sex you are having… sex with drunken, smelly old men you find behind homeless shelters. You don’t care who they are, what diseases they have, or how many loads of semen they pump into you. I bet you have an inch thick callous on your back, since you are lying on your back naked on the sidewalk 18 hours a day! I hate fat mouthed little sluts like you. I imagine that you have had at east 20 deformed, demented welfare babies already. Why don’t you get a needle and some heavy duty thread and sew your baby hole shut, once and for all? SLUT

  34. Dear LulaBelle\Skull\Emptyhandkiller,

It’s funny that all of your comments are coming in over the same IP address. Keep the multiple-personality trolling to a minimum. Honestly, I didn’t even have to look at your IP address to tell—it was really that obvious. So, you’re not even a good troll. :)

  35. Hey, Tollhouse…. You better leave Cassidy alone!!! You know how mental those big, fat, hairy lezzies can get!! First, she will sue you. Then, she will track you down and follow you. Finally, she will club you over the head, chop off your prick, take it home with her and put it in a jar! I bet she has hundreds of evil men’s boners in her display case! Watch out for her!!!!

  36. To everyone in the thread:

I am a douche-nozzle and give handjobs to hobos and circus clowns. That is all.

  37. I like a girl with two jobs and a paper route, then she will stay out of mischief… (Looking for wife #3 :-(

  38. delsyd —- You just proved yourself to be a fat ittle coward… erasing my post… did it hurt your feelings or was it TRUE??? And how clever to impersonate me…. slut….

-Delsydsoftware- Actually, i just meant to add to the end of it( like this ), but i accidentally erased the text in the process.

  39. I, delsydsoftware, do hereby swear that I am a confused trans-sexual, so therefore I will have sex with anything that moves, male, female, and plant.

-delsydsoftware- It’s true. I still have scars from fucking a cactus and a sparrow at the same time, while an old lady was fisting me.

  40. Cassidy, is that the same study that didn’t take into account that men, on average, tend to have more experience per job and tend to work considerably more overtime hours, and that adjusted for this, the values were basically the same, and in some zones higher for the women?

On another note, there’s something nobody seems to be accounting for: This is a 1943 leaflet. Adjust for the cultural outlook of the era. It was a time where the idea of subservient housewifes to hardworking husbands was a lot more entrenched, and the idea of an enterprising, working woman was not as widely accepted as reasonable as today. So, the article reflects that - it’s not that the article itself is misogynistic, but that it reflects a different psychological makeup of man and woman.

Even then, some of the advice is certainly worthy and reasonable (not all of it, though), not only for women, but also for some men today. Many of these rules were learnt by men in their previous job experience: it was a time where men were more disciplined and adjusted to the idea of work at a younger age than today, and women did not pass through such a phase.

  41. Seems accurate to me.

  42. DON’T FEED THE TROLLS. ALSO- BAN SELF-FEEDING TROLLS.

Here’s my devalued two cents (fucking recession).

Women get paid less = Truth. How much less? Depends on who you quote for statistics. A brief search of the intarwebs indicates some women may make only 75-90% of what an equally qualified man in the same position makes. However, when you get aboard the research boat before you post, be prepared to find out that many women will make similar wages as men, and in many parts of the world, women are rapidly taking over jobs formerly dominated by men and establishing themselves in white-collar industry as the go-to guys (pun intended).

Women work harder = Some truth. Depending on the case. Research has shown that in workplaces where there is a proportionate ratio of women to men, the women work no harder than their male peers in general. This could be compared to a restaurant- the predominantly male cooks think the servers have it easy. The predominantly female waitresses think the cooks have it easy. Neither one would last five minutes in the other’s job, but they both believe the other “has it easy”. In other cases, where the female employee is a “token”, a quote from the American Journal of Sociology, Vol. 82, No. 5, describes the situation some of the women posters have described- “Three perceptual phenomena are associated with tokens: visibility (tokens capture a disproportionate awareness share), polarization (differences between tokens and dominants are exaggerated), and assimilation (tokens’ attributes are distorted to fit preexisting generalizations about their social type). Visibility generates performance pressures; polarization leads dominants to heighten their group boundaries; and assimilation leads to the tokens’ role entrapment.”. So, it depends on who you ask. Some 18-yo girl in a restaurant may tell you about how it’s all relative and she doesn’t think anyone works harder (but she’ll tell you about all the tip money she gets every night while you sit around waiting for your “check”). Our engineer-ess friend above sounds like she’s sadly, one of the “tokens” the report mentioned. So don’t try to tell the lady she’s ignorant or quoting out of context- from her perspective, it’s right in context.

In addition, while it’s hard to find scientific evidence pertaining to body image’s relationship on performance, one can find evidence that image maintenance factors strongly in feminine self-perception and that women who do not approve of their appearance are less self-confident and happy. Likewise, there must be a million studies that claim that if you’re not happy, you’re not working as well as you could be. While A is a B and B is a C, in this case there is no hard evidence proving A to be a C (that I can find).

Finally, I’d like to point out that by today’s standards the above guidelines are patriegocentric. Many of those assertions are based on “us and them” attitudes, probably caused by factors similar to the “token” issue I quoted above- namely that it was written by men to advise other men about dealing with an “outsider” group. Let’s not forget that even today ignorance of other people and cultures is a major issue, and arguing over how true or untrue something written from a misogynistic slant in 1943 was probably isn’t going to solve our peak oil problems, isn’t going to help stem the rising rate of famine nor will it deal with outbreaks of pandemic superbugs from undeveloped nations with no healthcare whatsoever. Fixing those problems means getting people educated and motivated to act. More women are in college these days than men, and the rates of men enrolling are sliding downhill, while the rates of women enrolling is skyrocketing (fuck yeah, I love being a 23yo male in college). If men don’t want to learn and develop themselves, who do you think will be educated and dedicated enough to solve these global problems?

  43. Cassidy.. actually the numbers on that website do not bear out your claims about women earning 75 cents to a man’s dollar. The last time I investigated that claim, the 75 cents could only be arrived at by creating classes of ‘comparable’ jobs, by for example comparing ‘restaraunt server’ to ’security guard’ (i.e comparing a woman dominated field to a male dominated field. ) And if you are trying to prove this point, you should NOT use engineering, as they (today) are way way closer than 75%. My reading of the data on that website (yes, I read it) is this:
    1. The difference between salaries for engineers is less than 5% in 3 out of 6 datapoints. One datapoint (25 to 29 years) doesn’t correspond to the trend of the data, and so in normal statistical analysis would be ignored, or normalized with the rest. Of all the datapoints listed in the graph, only ONE (the abberant one) showed a value of women earning 75 cents for a man’s dollar.
    2. It has been shown by studies (sorry, don’t have a reference handy) that a 5 to 10% difference between salaries can be accounted for by more agressive bargaining during salary negotiation time. Men and women who ‘asked for more’ were MUCH MORE likely to get more than those who did not (seems obvious there). The study noted, but did not give reasons, that women were MUCH LESS likely than men to try to negotiate raises/salary. The study did offer the thought that it may be less socially acceptable for women to negotiate for more money. Of course, if you want a good discussion, probably better to take it offline, as the valid arguments would likely drown in the crap.

  44. Laugh all you like. Read Title VII of the US Code and then reread this. It is the law of the land, only in politically correct terms.

  45. But even that is disingenuous. The main reason why women DON’T negotiate for higher salary is that they know if they DO, they will be seen as aggressive and won’t get the job. I face that problem every time I go through a salary negotiation. When I negotiated for what my skills are actually worth, I didn’t get the job. But if I didn’t negotiate, I usually got it. So I’m between a rock and a hard place here. No job or a job where I’m grievously underpaid. And what makes it worse is that I got grievously underpaid in the past when I was younger and didn’t know any better, so it makes it THAT much harder for me to present a case that I ought to be paid more.

People expect men to negotiate, but when a woman does, it often backfires. Thus the lower salaries. You can’t blame women for not negotiating if you don’t take prevailing cultural attitudes into account. The fact that many people here think that the 1943 list is still valid is a case in point.

  46. The Gender War red herring is *so* twenty minutes ago!

Since the 1980s, the majority of students on American university campuses have been female. Today, young women in urban centers today earn more than young men.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/03/nyregion/03women.html?ex=1343793600&en=92838a503b49a9a5&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink

If that doesn’t work, try http://tinyurl.com/2ftn8p

Any woman who natters about inequality in the workplace is a sore winner and deserves a sharp smack on her bottom.

  47. “I don’t need instructions, I take charge of my role and I do it well.

That’s the problem. It’s not a “role”. You’re not in a movie. It’s not an outfit you put on and lines you say and an attitude you drag around… it’s a job. It has objectives, demands and results and at the end of the day you go home and do whatever and you go back the next day and you get paid for meeting the demands and effecting the desired results. There ain’t no movie cameras, it’s not a set, it’s a workplace, laides, and if you have to sprinkle a bunch of land mines around for male co-workers who “refuse to acknowledge you taking charge of your ‘role’ “, then you’re taking productivity away. It’s not whether or not you can do the work. The work and your ability to do it is given, if you have the job. It’s all the nickel for six drama that floats around while women play their “roles” that I have no time for.

  48. Since you’re selling adspace to google, you might want to either a) credit the scan, or b) trim the image. ‘Specially since you obviously posted this to attract thousands of ignorant indignants’ hits.

  49. Gotta love the embedded tautology of “content” and “hit counts” superceding alles.

I would find it interesting to get the various patritcipants in one of these tempest in a teapot discussions into one room, with no anonymity of digitally emulated text, no skirt to hide under, just all that flab and denim and messy hair and watch them squirm. : )

Everybody can be a patrician, learned and righteously haughty know it all, on the net.

I don’t know what’s more ridiculous… the blantantly ignorant and outrageous trolls spouting random, sociopathic horseshit or the poeple who think that somebody “wins”.

  50. Ahem….September/October 2007?

  56. Welcome to equality… ladies!

This guide is little different than today’s modern diversity and sexual harassment guidelines which advises everyone to tiptoe around women and treat them with kid’s gloves in addition to special treatment such as daycare and family leave in some larger firms.

At least with the sexism of the past, women were treated with respect unlike feminists who are shrill, materialistic, hypocritical victims. So-called women’s equality is an illusion created by chivalrous patronage from powerful white men. All they can do is bite the hand that feeds them.

And “ladies”, everyone knows this. Even yourselves. And shrill simpleminded unsupported exclamations of “a woman works twice as hard as a man for half the pay” are obviously just childish cries for help from your knights in shining armor. “Protect me!” you cry as some man dares to actually criticize you like he would, a man and treating you like an equal.

  57. wow, the misogyny that has exploded in this culture in recent months is simply staggering.

  58. it reminds me of one of my first jobs - when I was about 21 - and some coworker walks up to me and says that I’m taking a job away from a man, supporting a family. what am *I*? chopped liver? I supposed to wait for the Dept of Husbands to issue me a guy so I can eat and have a roof over my head? wtf? all you hateful men sound just like that guy. and the blanket statements about women - just stereotyping. feminism did a lot of good and I’m sick of hearing feminism being bashed by men who project their own fears onto women and claiming ‘that’s what feminists did.’

  64. Women shouldn’t have to work if they respected their husbands. They would gladly provide for their wives. Its ok for women to work if its their choice, but I think accommodating them is acceptable. Take advantage of it! Pushing to be equal in the workplace will make you work more, stress you out, and will damage the relationship with your children. They need you. You are putting your needs first, and that is the most selfish thing a woman can ever do to her family.

  66. This still sounds pretty accurate today actually. Twice as hard for half the pay. Yeah right. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to go and lift heavy things for women. Or put in overtime because some woman had to leave work early to go pick up her kids or something. And let’s not forget maternity leave.

  67. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. Not only can we not over look our differences, and get past gender. We can not even get past race. I look forward to the day mother nature rids us from the world. You all make me sick.

By the way, consider getting a grip on the reality of sexism and racism, of course it sucks, but flipping out about it in our forums and being condescending with us isn’t going to help you or do anything about it.

  70. Hey, Jonesy and Just wow…. I would like you two idiots to fight to the death in a freshly dug grave! That way, the loser is already in a hole. Absolutely no rules… you can bite, strangle, gouge, rip, tear, kick, scratch, gnaw, smother, choke, and anything else that comes to your peanut minds! I hope that one of you dies, and the other is so injured that he can’t climb out. Then I will shovel the dirt onto the both of you, so you can lie next to each other forever!
