New documentary about the lives of hardcore MMO’ers [I Heart Movies]
Our little sliver of the first part of the 21st century might be known in future generations when everyone realized that virtual worlds are here to stay and MMOs came into their own. Sure, you say, there were MUDs like Zork and then Ultima Online and Everquest. But with World of Warcraft hitting 10 million subscribers this month and 3 new MMOs coming out this year, MMOs have come out of being a niche thing for hardcore fantasy and sci-fi geeks and part of the ever-evolving online landscape.
And now there’s a documentary, Second Skin, about the lives of the serious MMO player, put out by Pure West films. Gold farmers, players, guild leaders, Warcraft widows, grinding for 12 hours a day… you probably can find yourself or someone you know in this film.
